An office building with commercial space and underground car park was built for Mercateo on Grimmaischer Steinweg on Augustusplatz in Leipzig. The design was created by KLM Architekten und Ingenieure. The building was completed in 2023 and is located at an important transport hub that connects the north/south and east/west axes. The floor plan of the new building is U-shaped in order to comply with building regulations such as clearance areas and to ensure a logical structure.
The six-storey building has a gross floor area of approx. 14,800 m². The façade combines tradition and modernity and reflects Leipzig's historical development as a trade fair city. Large-scale vertical glazing dominates the lower storeys, while structured glass fibre concrete elements characterise the upper storeys and enable harmonious integration into the cityscape.
The project closes the last undeveloped corner of a central transport hub in Leipzig. Grimmaischer Steinweg is an important link to the city centre ring road and the city centre can be reached on foot in approx. 5 minutes. The proximity to the Johannisplatz tram stop offers optimal public transport connections.
The new building includes 550 HAFI Design 234 window handles.
