As a member of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and the Institut Bauen und Umwelt e.V. (IBU), we identify with the guiding principles of sustainable building.
The DGNB has developed its own internationally recognized certification system to make sustainable building practicable, measurable and therefore comparable. The independent certification process is based on a holistic understanding of sustainability. Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14025 and DIN EN 15804 are used to create an assessment basis for making the real sustainability of products measurable. For this purpose, the impact on the environment is analyzed as part of the product life cycle, i.e. from production to disposal of the product. The origin and type of raw materials are taken into account, as are the entire manufacturing process and the energy sources used for this, transportation routes, the product’s service life and its recyclability. The key figures analyzed here are, for example, the reuse, recovery and recycling potential, but also the global warming potential and the energy recovery possibilities. These key figures can be found in the life cycle assessment of the HAFI EPDs. All HAFI door handle product series and window handles are documented by means of an EPD in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14025 and DIN EN 15804.
