The building of the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) combines the architecture of the imperial era with modern design. The listed building was built in 1890. At the time, it was the headquarters of Deutsche Bank. After the Second World War, the building was remodelled several times. One of the architects involved in the remodelling was the Bauhaus student Franz Ehrlich. In 1950, the building served as the headquarters of the GDR Ministry of the Interior and the GDR People's Police and after reunification as the headquarters of the Gauck authorities.

As part of the latest refurbishment and conversion from 2017 to 2022 according to plans by KSP Engel, the existing building was extended with a new building in the inner courtyard and the roof was redesigned and made usable. The new building span with the new main access connects the four existing stairwells and enables quick access to all levels. In place of the large inner courtyard, four smaller courtyards with different functions have been created: a green recreation area, a service courtyard with access and delivery and two covered courtyards. These provide space for a conference area and a cafeteria with an adjoining press and visitor centre.

The historic building houses, among other things, around 900 sets of HAFI Design 203.
