On behalf of the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of Justice, Bau- und Liegenschaftsbetrieb NRW (BLB NRW) is building a new correctional facility in Münster. The new building is being constructed on an undeveloped site in the Wolbeck district. A total of 13 buildings and an external access control system are being built on the new site. The construction project was planned and implemented by RKW Architektur +.

Extensive landscaping measures were implemented in order to integrate the new prison into the surrounding cultural landscape in the best possible way. For example, around 13,000 native trees and shrubs were planted. The aim is for the prison to be completely covered by a natural hedge typical of the region in around ten years' time. In the long term, the trees should reach a height of up to 30 meters.

The preparatory work began in January 2021. This included the relocation of two straight drainage ditches to the edge of the site, which benefits both flood protection and ecological enhancement. The new watercourse was designed to be near-natural, with a curved course and typical planting. In addition, a meadow orchard and a species-rich mown meadow were created. These measures create valuable habitats for animals and plants. The new construction is expected to be completed in 2026.

Design 224 and Design 280 are located in the new building of Münster Prison.
