Dortmund's town hall on Friedensplatz was built between 1987 and 1989. After around 30 years of intensive use, the town hall required extensive modernisation. In March 2024, the town hall was reopened after three years of refurbishment. During the renovation, the building shell and interior were extensively modernised. A total of five floors with a gross floor area of around 16,000 square metres were renovated.

The doors of Dortmund's town hall were also given new accents. HAFI Design 202 in polished PVD brass and matt stainless steel and HAFI Design 285, also in polished PVD brass, were used. The brass-coloured fittings lend the doors of the town hall a special elegance.
